Afonso T is a UK-based Portuguese musician with a boundless enthusiasm for sharing his love of music. His work experience is highly varied, ranging from composing and conducting to production and guitar playing. Active in Portugal and the UK, he has conducted several orchestras such as the BBC Philharmonic, Czech Studio Orchestra, New Sinfonia, Nottingham Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Ballet Sinfonia, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra, Liverpool Mozart Orchestra, Leeds Haydn Players, and Psappha. As a composer, he won the 1st prize of the VII International Composition Competition (P. de Varzim Festival 2014). His works have been performed in Portugal, the UK, and Bosnia and Herzegovina in festivals such as Música Viva, Pianoporto, and Tuzla Guitar Week. As a producer, Afonso collaborated with Musiversal and Neper Music for more than 6 years. He recorded with dozens of artists such as Ludwig Forsell, Manoj George, Ralf Hildenbeutel, and David Kalmusky. His producer/conductor credits count 200+ tracks in studios in Lisbon, London, Prague, and Budapest. Coming from a musical family, he began learning to play the piano at 5 years old. He later decided to focus on the guitar, and throughout the years he has kept performing occasionally as a guitarist in Portuguese folk music projects. He is also a sought-out music teacher, with 6+ years of experience teaching guitar, piano, composition, and theory to students of different backgrounds, ages 8-52. He is available to teach in his home in Manchester City Centre or in neighbouring areas. His speciality is a general music lesson covering one instrument, theory, and composing, which draws on his wide musical experience. The classes are always adapted to each student, but all of them get to experience his passion for music.
